Lupe The Mountain Climber and New Album Fiasco

In an effort to bring awareness to the worldwide water crisis, Chicago lyricist Lupe Fiasco has confirmed plans to ascend Tanzania’s Mount Kilimanjaro (OMFG).

Fiasco was recruited for the stunt by Ethiopian pop singer Kenna, whose father nearly perished as a child due to a lack of clean drinking water.

Mount Kilimanjaro boasts the highest peak on the African continent at 19, 330 feet. Most routes to the top of the mountain take a maximum of 6 to 7 days. Although the voyage is a popular retreat amongst climbers, the journey is not without its dangers. An estimated 10 people die every year attempting to climb Kilimanjaro. Despite the risks for a novice climber, Fiasco plans to make the event a light-hearted competition with his friend Kenna.

Along with Kenna and Fiasco, pop superstar Justin Timberlake is expected to participate. The Mount Kilimanjaro charity climb is scheduled to take place this Fall 2009.

On a lighter yet sadder note, Lupe’s anticipated third and apparently last (since he's retiring) studio album "Lasers" is due out in Fall 2009. Fiasco was originally going to release his triple album, Lupe Fiasco's LupE.N.D. as his third and final record, but his contract with Atlantic Records prevented him from retiring with this agenda. Instead, he announced a new album was on the works, originally titled "We Are Lasers" and then changed to "Lasers".

During a concert in Boston, Fiasco played the chorus of a song called "Shining Down" from "Lasers", which eventually led to a snippet being leaked onto the internet. "Shining Down" was intended to be the first single off of "Everywhere", the first of the three CDs that LupE.N.D. is composed of. But because its release was withheld, there is speculation circulating that it may be the first single from Lasers.
"Shining Down" was leaked on Tuesday, June 16th 2009. Fiasco stated that he was very angry about the leak; however, that the leaked track is not the final mix for the song. Lupe promises to have "Lasers" out this Fall with a Japanese Cartoon album dropping the exact same day.
